History
Already during the Han Empire, Jianyang (江 阳县) and Hanan (汉 安县) counties were established on these lands.
When the Tang Empire in 758, Chang (昌 州) was formed, which included Changyuan (昌 元 县), Jingnan (静 南县) and Dazzu (大 足 县) counties, while Changyuan county authorities were located at the site of the current Runchana Over time, the authorities of the region of Chang also moved there. Under the Ming empire, due to the fact that the authorities in both Changyuan Region (荣 州) and Chang Region were located in Changyuan, it was renamed Rongchang County.
After the formation of the People's Republic of China, Rongchang County was successively part of the special districts of Pishan (区 壁山 区) and Jiangjin (区 专 区) and Yunchuan (地区) districts of Sichuan province . In 1983, Yunchuan District was disbanded, and Rongchang County was transferred to Chongqing jurisdiction.
On April 28, 2015, Rongchang County was transformed into the area of city subordination.
