Beibei ( Chinese р 北碚 , pinyin : Běibèi , literally: "northern cliff") is the district of urban subordination of the city of central subordination to Chongqing ( PRC ).

Geography
Beibei District is located in the western part of Chongqing. The total area of the district is 755 km². The territory of the region is covered with low mountains and foothills. The highest point has a height of 1312 m, the lowest 175 m.
The climate in the region is subtropical monsoon, characterized by heavy rains, early spring, hot summers. The highest recorded temperature is + 44.3 ° C, the minimum temperature is −3.1 ° C, and the average annual temperature is + 18.2 ° C.
History
In 1942, during the war with Japan, a special administrative body was formed in these places to manage the territory that was part of the four counties. After the end of the civil war , Sichuan province was disbanded in 1950, and its former territory was divided into four “special administrative regions”. In 1951, Beibei City was established, to which the authorities of the Chuandong Special Administrative Region (川东 行政区) moved. In August 1952, four special administrative districts were reunited in Sichuan Province, the city was subordinated to the authorities. In 1953, it was incorporated into Chongqing as the Beibei District. In 1995, a major redistribution of the borders of the Chongqing districts occurred, which changed the territory of Beibei.
