Biography
Pavel Mamkin was born on February 22, 1922 in the village of Burtsevo (now the Oleninsky district of the Tver region ). After elementary school, he worked on a collective farm . In August 1941, Mamkin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since October of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad and Kursk [1] .
By September 1943, Junior Sergeant Pavel Mamkin was in command of the machine gun department of the 221st Guards Rifle Regiment of the 77th Guards Rifle Division of the 61st Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 28, 1943, Mamkin’s branch crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Vyalye, Bragin district of the Gomel region of the Belorussian SSR, and took an active part in the battles for capturing and holding the bridgehead, repelling the German counterattack and inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. October 19, 1943 Mamkin died in battle. He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Bragin [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, Junior Sergeant Pavel Mamkin was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "courage and courage shown in crossing the Dnieper" guard. He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Star [1] .
