Spain ( Spanish Hispania ) is a city and municipality in the west of Colombia , in the Antioquia department. Included in the subregion of Southwest Antioquia .

Content
History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded in 1925 . The municipality of Spain was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1984 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southwestern part of the department, in the highlands of Western Cordillera , on the banks of the Pedral River, approximately 56 kilometers southwest of Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 942 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of Spain borders in the north and east with the municipality of Pueblorrico , in the south with the municipalities of Andes and Betania , in the west with the municipality of Ciudad Bolivar . The area of the municipality is 58 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 4854 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 50.6% of the population of Spain, women - 49.4%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 92.5% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raisals - 7.1%, Indians - 0.4% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 79.8%.
Economics
The basis of the Spanish economy is agricultural production .
49.5% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 31.4% are service enterprises, 18.6% are industrial enterprises, 0.5% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
