Biography
Nikolai Mamaev was born on March 5, 1924 in the village of Vyselki 2nd [1] [2] [3] [4] [K 1] . After elementary school, he worked on a collective farm . In August 1942, Mamaev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since 1943 - on the fronts of World War II, he was a shooter of the 955th Infantry Regiment of the 309th Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On the night of September 21-22, 1943, Mamaev crossed the Dnieper in the area of the Monastyryok hamlet (now within the village of Rzhishchev of the Kagarlyk district of the Kiev region of Ukraine) and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead, destroying 1 machine gun with a crew and more than 20 enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 23, 1943, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time”, Red Army soldier Nikolai Mamaev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal " Under the number 1072 [1] .
In 1944 he joined the CPSU (b) [7] . In 1946 he graduated from the Tambov Infantry School. In 1947 he was transferred to the reserve with the rank of second lieutenant.
He returned to his homeland, lived in the village of Bolshoy Roy of the Urzhumsky district, worked as a carpenter on the Lastinsky collective farm of the Pizhansky district [2] . He died on October 24 [K 2] 1998 [1] in the village of Bolshoi Roy, Urzhumsky District, Kirov Region [3] [9] , where he was buried [8] [10] .
