Biography
Nikolai Malyuga was born on September 7, 1918 in Melitopol . After graduating from the Melitopol Institute of Agricultural Mechanization Engineers, he worked as a mechanical engineer at a machine and tractor station. In January 1942, Malyuga was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1943 he graduated from the Kharkov Tank School. Since July of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By February 1945, the senior lieutenant Nikolai Malyuga commanded a platoon of the 12th Tank Regiment, the 25th Guards Mechanized Brigade , the 7th Guards Mechanized Corps , and the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . On February 10, 1945, in battle, he and his crew destroyed 2 artillery pieces and 3 mortars with calculations, and then defeated the enemy convoy, destroying 8 vehicles and 6 carts. On February 11, Malyuga's crew destroyed 3 tanks and 1 enemy aircraft on the ground. On February 14, 1945, reflecting a counterattack trying to break out of the enemy surrounded by Breslau , Malyuga destroyed 2 tanks and 2 self-propelled artillery installations, but he also died. He was buried at the site of his last battle [1] .
Rewards
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 10, 1945, for “courage, bravery and heroism shown in the fight against the German invaders” of the guard, senior lieutenant Nikolai Malyuga was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and Red Star , a medal [1] .
Memory
A street was named after Malyuga and a monument was erected in Melitopol [1] .
