Geography
The urban settlement Maysky is located in the northeastern part of the Maysky district , between the rivers Terek , Cherek , and Malka , right up to the place where the Malka flows into the Terek.
The area of the municipality is 138.3 km 2 .
The territories of the urban settlement border on the lands of rural settlements: Kotlyarevskaya in the south, Psykod in the southwest, Oktyabrskoye in the west, the urban district Prokhladny in the northwest, the villages of Ekaterogradskaya and Prylizhnaya in the north, Krasnoarmeyskoye and Urozhaynoe in the east and Dzhulat in the southeast.
The municipality is located on an inclined Kabardian plain , in the plain zone of the republic. Relief is a relatively flat areas, passing along the river valleys in small elevations. There are developed systems of beams along the rivers. The average height on the territory of the settlement is 220 meters above sea level.
The hydrographic network in the territory of the urban settlement is represented by the rivers Cherek , Malka and Terek , as well as a large number of small lakes and artificial reservoirs (quarry). The area is rich in groundwater sources and is replete with fresh water resources.
Located in a semi-arid temperate zone ( Dfa according to the Köppen climate classification ). Summer is hot and average temperatures in July-August are about + 23 ° С. Winters are mild with average January temperatures around + 1 ° C ... -3 ° C. The average annual rainfall is about 600 mm. In the period from April to July there are heavy rains with hail, in August, dry winds often blow from the Caspian lowland .
History
The municipality in its modern borders was founded in 1959 during the transformation of the municipal districts of the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
In 1992, the Maysky City Council was reorganized and transformed into the administration of the Maysky urban settlement.
