Dakota (Xiuan)

Dakota ( Dakota, Sioux ) is an endangered Xiuan language spoken by the Sioux tribes (Dakota (Yankton and Yanktonai), Santi, Sysiton) who live on Fort Peck, Devils Lake, North Rock Standing Rock Reserves Dakota on the Crow Creek, Yankton Reserves of South Dakota , and are somewhat dispersed in the reservation communities in Minnesota , Nebraska in the USA, as well as in Saskatchewan , on the Oak River and Lake in the Long Plain Fest Nation region (west of Birdtail Sioux Fest Nation, Winnipeg , Mus Woods, Stony Wapeton, Standing Buffalo) Manitoba , Canada. There may also be a village of Wood Mountain (Saskatchewan).

Dialects

The Dakota language also has two main dialects with two sub-dialects (and minor variations too):

  • East Dakota : Santi (Isáŋyáthi: Bdewákhatuŋwaŋ, Waȟpékhute), Sisseton (Sisítuŋwaŋ, Waȟpétuŋwaŋ).
  • Western Dakota : Yankton (Iháŋktȟuŋwaŋ), Yanktonai (Iháŋktȟuŋwaŋna), Upper Yanktonai (Wičhíyena).
