The 23rd Virginia Infantry Regiment ( The 23rd Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment ) was an infantry regiment recruited in Virginia during the American Civil War . He fought almost exclusively as part of the Severovirgin army .

The 23rd Virginia was formed in May 1861. His companies were recruited in Richmond and the districts of Louise, Amelia, Halifax, Goochland, Prince Edward and Charlotte. The first commander of the regiment was Colonel William Booth Tagliaferro .
In 1861, the regiment fought in West Virginia, participated in the battles of Cheat Mountain and at Greenbrier River. In winter, he participated in the expedition of Thomas Jackson's Romnian . After that, he was involved in a campaign in the Shenandoa Valley, where Tagliaferro became the brigade commander. The regiment got into the brigade of Samuel Fulkerson and participated in the first battle at Kernstown , where he lost 3 people killed, 14 wounded and 32 missing. The regiment returned to the Tallaferro brigade and on May 8, fought under McDowell, where he lost 6 people killed and 35 wounded.
As part of the same brigade, the regiment went through a seven-day battle, where it lost only 6 people.
