9 × 21 mm - Russian central-ignition pistol cartridge with a flangeless cylindrical sleeve with a small taper, created at the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering , Klimovsk , Russia . Designed for effective destruction of targets protected by personal protective equipment ( helmets , body armor , etc.). The cartridge itself and some pistols for it were developed as part of the R & D of the Grach competition for a new pistol for the Russian Armed Forces .
