Biography
Born in Holland . Originally worked in Amsterdam as a miniaturist .
It is believed that he came to London in 1687 and soon after that he began to engrave portraits .
Around 1707, John Faber founded a publishing house, a printing house and a shop near the Savoy Palace on one of the central streets of London , the Strand, and began to sell his works.
Creativity
Faber is the author of miniature portraits, made mainly on parchment , among them King Charles I of England, poets S. Butler , B. Johnson and Chaucer , astronomer Hevelius and others.
Among his most famous works in the mezzotint technique are numerous portraits of representatives of the highest clergy, 45 portraits of the founders of Oxford and Cambridge , a series of portraits of twelve Caesars, ancient philosophers and 21 portraits of reformers of the church.
John Faber was the father and teacher of John Farber (junior) (1695-1756), who became the next-generation English mezzotinto artist.
