The early years
Byron Houston was born in Watonga ( Oklahoma ), studied at the Oklahoma school Star Spencer from the city of the same name, in which he played for the local basketball team.
Student career
After leaving school, Houston entered the University of Oklahoma at Stillwater , where he played for the Oklahoma State Cowboys team for four years, in which he had a successful career, gaining 2379 points, 1190 rebounds, 209 assists, 159 interceptions and 223 block shots [ 1] , in addition, he once helped his team win the regular championship of the Big Eight conference (1991) [2] , and also helped bring his team to the playoffs of the NCAA student championship two times [3] .
Professional career
He played as a light forward , heavy forward and attacking defender . In 1992, he was selected by the NBA draft under number 27 as the Chicago Bulls team, but did not play a single match for it, but was immediately exchanged for the Golden State Warriors club. He later played for the teams of Seattle Supersonics , Sacramento Kings , Leon Caha Spain , Quad City Thunder ( KBA ), CSK Air Force Samara , SSA Trefl Sopot , Hoventut Badalona and Saint Louis Suorm ”( IBL ). In total, the NBA spent 4 seasons. In 1991, Houston was recognized as the basketball player of the year among the students of the Big Eight conference , and in 1992 he was included in the 2nd all-American team of the NCAA [1] . In total, during his career in the NBA he played 214 games in which he scored 835 points (an average of 3.9 per game), made 648 rebounds , 114 assists , 103 interceptions and 86 block shots .
In 1999, Houston won the Pan American Games in Winnipeg as part of the US national team .
Personal life
June 15, 2006 Byron Houston was removed from a children's basketball camp in Oklahoma due to the fact that he was registered in this state as a sex offender [4] . On June 13, 2007, he was arrested on charges of indecent behavior, participating in an indecent act and driving a vehicle without a driver’s license. On September 16, 2007, he was sentenced to four years in prison for violating a probationary period related to this crime. Defense witnesses claimed that Houston suffered from bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses.
