History
Originally called Peyauoiag , five families settled here for the first time in September 1735 . In 1762 he received the status of a town-town (small town) and the current name Atol . The name of the locality was given by John Murray, one of the owners of the land, since the hills reminded him of his ancestral homeland, the Scottish town of Blair Atoll.
In 1880 there were 4307 inhabitants in Athol, a cast iron smelter and a significant shoemaking industry.
