Biography
Born in the family of a carver, a native of Western Bohemia . He studied at the Vienna Academy of Art .
Since 1744 he lived in Prague, married the widow of a carver, created his own workshop, which continued successful work until the XIX century.
At the invitation of Empress Maria Theresa , in 1773 he created three statues for the Vienna summer imperial residence - Schönbrunn and was appointed a court sculptor.
He was buried in Prague at the Malostransky cemetery .
His son Ignaz Michal (1757-1826) was also a sculptor, and Joseph was an artist.
Creativity
Mostly worked in the Baroque style and based on a synthesis of late Baroque with Czech and Viennese classicism. Quite a lot of I. Platzer's works have been preserved in Prague.
