Biography

Nikolai Maximov was born on December 10, 1915 in the village of Kupriyanovka (now - Inzhavinsky district of the Tambov region ). He graduated from seven classes of the school and two courses of the College of Agricultural Mechanization. In 1936, Maximov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1938, he graduated from the Kachin Military Aviation Pilot School. Since November 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By March 1945, Captain Nikolai Maximov was the navigator of the 624th assault air regiment of the 308th assault air division of the 3rd assault air corps of the 2nd air army of the 1st Ukrainian front . By that time, he had made 131 sorties to attack accumulations of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, inflicting heavy losses, in air battles he shot down 6 enemy aircraft in person and 12 more as part of the group [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945 for "courage and heroism shown in the destruction of enemy manpower and equipment", Captain Nikolai Maximov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 8000 [ 1] .

After the war, Maximov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. Tragically died in a plane crash on March 8, 1952 [1] .

He was awarded two orders of Lenin, two orders of the Red Banner , orders of Alexander Nevsky and World War 1 degree, a number of medals [1] .

In honor of Maksimov named street in Yaroslavl and Inzhavino [1] .
