Setu (self-name seto kiil , est. Setu keel ) is a language / dialect of the people of the same name living in south-eastern Estonia . Refers to the Baltic-Finnish subgroup .

General Information
This language is classified by some linguists as the Vyru dialect , but the representatives of the Seto people consider their language to be independent. According to data for 2011, up to 10 thousand Setos live in the districts of Setumaa (present-day Võrumaa and Põlvamaa ). Up to 250 Seto live in Russia .
In 2009, UNESCO included this language in the atlas of endangered languages of the world as “endangered”. In 2010, the Russian government added a setu to the list of indigenous minorities of Russia .
