The workbench (from it. Werkstatt - workshop) - a desktop for processing manually metal products, wood and other materials. Workbenches are often equipped with various devices (for example, stops, vices ) and boxes for storing tools and materials. By types of work, carpentry workbenches for processing wooden products and metalworking - for processing metal products are distinguished.
On the workbench have the necessary tools, fixtures, materials, parts, technical documentation. Single workbenches have a height of 0.8–0.9 m , a width of 0.7–0.8 m , and a length of 1.2–1.5 m . Double and multi-mechanic workbenches are respectively increased in length. For storage of tools and documentation they are equipped with boxes divided into several cells. Convenient in the workbenches with adjustable in the range of 50-250 mm in height.

Workbench
The metal workbench is a stable, durable metal frame with a metal cover 4-6 mm thick, having three-sided sides. The lid is covered with sheet metal with a thickness of 1-1.5 mm, plywood, sheet textolite , and for performing curved and other precise work with linoleum . On the workbench cover can be fitted vise. Workbenches have a powerful worktop. There are several options for countertops. The best is the MDF plate thickness of 27-30 mm, covered with a sheet of galvanized metal. This design can withstand heavy loads, hammer blows or sledge hammers. Galvanized tabletop perfectly cleaned of dirt and can withstand the effects of active substances (solvent, gasoline, oil). The workbench is used not only as a work surface, but also for storing all kinds of tools, parts and accessories. Bedside tables with different numbers of drawers and shelves have been developed for this. The design of the boxes has undergone a strong change. Unlike the first models, where the boxes moved in the metal grooves of the pedestal, in the modern workbenches special guides on the bearings are used. These guides are designed for heavy loads and increase usability, since the opening of the drawers takes place to the full length with protection against overturning.
Thick workbench
As a rule, these workbenches have a length of more than six meters. Mostly tabletop is made of oak, and covered with linseed. These workbenches have various auxiliary structures and clamps, for example a vice. That vice will help in fixing even a whole tree trunk.
Of course for this reason, they must have a reinforced structure, since they will need to withstand very serious weights. In theory, carpentry workbenches are a reinforced version of carpentry workbenches, as well as carpentry, carpentry equipped with various drawers and cabinets for storing tools.
Joiner's Workbench
Classic carpentry workbench - a table consisting of podstachchya and cover (bench board). Podverstache is usually made from soft wood ( pine ). It has two racks connected by longitudinal bars with wedges or screws.
The lid is made of dry hardwood ( oak , beech , etc.) 60-80 mm thick and covered with linseed oil. In the rear side of the bench board has a longitudinal depression used to store small tools.
In front of the bench board installed front vise to secure the workpiece. In the back - a rectangular cut-out, in which the rear vise (box) moves. Along the edge of the bench board, there are a number of holes into which wooden chocks or special metal combs are inserted.
The classic design, designed to fix parts during manual processing, is of little use when using power tools, as it does not provide a sufficient number of mounting options for blanks. Therefore, at present, workbenches with a large number of holes in the tabletop, in which various stops and clamps are placed, are more often used.
