Biography
In 1947, at the age of 16, he took part in the Estonian Chess Championship for the first time. [1] In the Estonian Chess Championships, he won the gold (1957) and 2 silver medals (1951, 1958). [2] In 1950, he ranked second in the traditional tournament in Pärnu . [3] In 1952, he won the Baltic Chess Championship . [4] In the quarterfinal of the 1952 USSR Chess Championship in Krasnodar, he shared the 2-3rd place. [5] In 1958, he played as a member of the Estonian team at the USSR team championship in chess , where the Estonian team took the fourth highest position.
In the same year, Pitksaar’s chess career ended abruptly - he was disqualified with the phrase “improve his behavior.” For over 20 years, Pitksaar has not participated in chess competitions. Only in 1981, he returned and won the championship of Tallinn. He participated in the semi-finals of the Chess Olympiad by correspondence (1992-1996). [6] The title of international master ICCF received posthumously. [7]
