Biography
Grigory Pavlovich Belyaev was born on November 19, 1857 in Kronstadt in a marine family. He graduated from the Maritime College , received a distribution in the Baltic Fleet . In 1883 - 1885 he served as a watchman on the robber clipper , moved to the Pacific Ocean , carried cruising services in the Bering , Okhotsk and Japan Seas. In May 1886, he returned to Kronstadt using the Oprichnik clipper . Then for almost twenty years he served in the Baltic.
In 1902 - 1903 G.P. Belyaev, commanding the destroyer "Vlastny" , made the transition to the Pacific Ocean. In 1903 he was appointed commander of the seaman gunboat Koreets as part of the 1st Pacific Squadron .
January 27 ( February 9 ), 1904, the gunboat Koreets under the command of the 2nd-rank captain Belyaev, together with the 1st-class cruiser Varyag, participated in the battle at Chemulpo with superior forces of the Japanese squadron. After the battle, the Korean was blown up in the harbor of Chemulpo to prevent it from falling into the hands of the enemy. Belyaev and his team were stationed on neutral ships in the harbor and soon received permission to return to their homeland, provided that they did not take part in hostilities until the end of the war .
In Russia, G.P. Belyaev was appointed commander of the sail-screw clipper (cruiser of the 2nd rank) “ Cruiser ” and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV degree with a bow - for 25 years of impeccable service. In December 1905, he was promoted to captain of the 1st rank , in 1906 he was appointed commander of the squadron battleship Catherine II .
Grigory Pavlovich Belyaev died on November 22, 1907 in St. Petersburg , was buried in the Smolensk cemetery .
