Biography
Born in the Smolensk province. Since 1938 he lived in Moscow, studied at the Moscow Industrial and Construction College (graduated from two courses), also studied at the Moscow flying club.
In the Red Army since 1940. In 1942, he studied at the Balashov Military Aviation Pilot School . At the fronts - since April 1943. In the rank of senior lieutenant he was a pilot, senior pilot, flight commander and deputy squadron commander of the 62nd Grodno Order of the Suvorov Assault Aviation Regiment ( 233rd Yartsevskaya Red Banner Assault Aviation Division , 4th Air Army , 2nd Belorussian Front ). Throughout World War II he fought on the legendary attack aircraft Il-2 (flying tank). Three times wounded, twice burned in an airplane.
By November 1944, it completed 111 sorties, in which it destroyed 15 tanks, 74 vehicles, 22 guns, 11 anti-aircraft guns, 8 mortars, 36 horse-drawn carts, 31 wagons, 2 steam locomotives, 2 warehouses, 3 dugouts, 1 crossing and up to 450 soldiers the enemy. In total, during the war he made 146 sorties [2] .
For courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders, Senior Lieutenant V. N. Nikolaev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by decree of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Council on February 23, 1945 with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 5408) ) [2] .
Until the end of the war he continued to fight at the front. Victory met in the position of squadron commander.
After the war in 1955 he graduated from the Air Force Academy , served in staff and command posts in the USSR Military Transport Aviation. Since 1974 - Colonel of the reserve.
He died in Moscow, was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
