Biography

Pavel Makarov was born on November 10, 1921 in the village of Ryazan (now the Cherepovets district of the Vologda region ). After graduating from the Cherepovets Mechanical College, he worked in an artel. In February 1942, Makarov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War [1] .

By March 1944, Sergeant Pavel Makarov commanded an instrument of the 7th Infantry Regiment of the 24th Infantry Division of the 18th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Khmelnitsky region of the Ukrainian SSR . On March 24, 1944, Makarov’s calculation took part in repelling a large German counterattack on the Satanov - Gusyatin highway near the village of Ivankivtsi in the Gorodok district , destroying 2 tanks. In that battle Makarov died. He was buried in a mass grave in Ivankovtsy [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 23, 1944, Sergeant Pavel Makarov was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .

Streets in the villages of Satanov and the Court are named in honor of Makarov [1] .
