History
Like most districts of the Moldavian SSR , it was formed on November 11, 1940 , the center is the city of Comrat . Until October 16, 1949, it was part of the Bender County , after the abolition of the county division, it became directly republican subordinate.
From January 31, 1952 to June 15, 1953, the district was part of the Kagul district , after the abolition of the district division, it again became directly subordinate to the republic.
On January 9, 1956, small parts of the liquidated Baymakli and Bessarabsky districts were transferred to the Komratsky district.
On December 25, 1962, the Komrat District was liquidated, but two years later ( December 23, 1964 ) it was restored, while part of the territory of the former Taraclia District was included in it.
In 1991 - 1994, the district was nominally part of the Republic of Moldova, but was actually located on the territory of the self-proclaimed Republic of Gagauzia .
In 1994, the Republic of Gagauzia was returned to Moldova as a broad autonomy, and on July 22, 1995 , in accordance with Law No. 563-XIII, officially registered as an autonomous territorial entity of Gagauzia . Then the territory of the district with minor changes (two villages of the Bessarabsky district ( Avdarma and Chok-Maidan ) and one commune of the Tarakliysky district ( Svetly ) were transferred to the district, in turn, two communes ( Kyetu and Sadyk ) were transferred to Kantemirsky , two villages ( Keselia Mare and Frumushika ) - in Kagulsky and one village ( Borogany ) - in the Leowski districts of Moldova) was transferred to Gagauzia, where it formed the Comrat district (dolai) .
