Description
The gun was used by the German army to support infantry during the First World War. The basis was the standard 77-mm gun FK 96 neuer Art : the barrel and bolt of this weapon were mounted on a carriage with small wheels, on which there were no armchairs for soldiers and a shield.
The gun was developed near the end of the war and was not very widespread: from the spring of 1917 until the end of the war only 18 batteries were equipped with such weapons. The search for German engineers for an ideal effective infantry support weapon led to the fact that the Austro-Hungarian Skoda 7.5 cm Gebirgskanone 15 cannon, which was used by the Germans in the Second World War, began to spread in the German army.
