Biography

The son of Guillaume Hugo de Bo . He accompanied his father on a crusade, mentioned as a witness in the testament of Raimund IV Saint-Gilles , signed at the castle of Mont-Peleren on January 31, 1105. About 1110 he returned to Provence . In 1113, he was one of three witnesses to the act by which Countess Dulsa of Provence transferred her possessions to her husband, Ramon Berenguer III . In 1114, having equipped seven galleys, he participated in an expedition organized by the count to recapture Mallorca from the Saracens. As a reward, Ramon-Berenguer granted him fierce land of Burr. Around 1116 he received the hand of Stefanetta of Provence, sister of Countess Dulce , and all the possessions of the killers of Count Gilbert Zhevodansky , with the exception of Saint-Maximin . In the struggle between Provence between Ramon-Berenguer and Count of Toulouse Alphonse Jordan, he took a dual position, as evidenced by a letter from Pope Calixtus II dated June 21, 1121 addressed to Raymond, Guillaume de Sabran and other supporters of Count Toulouse, threatening to excommunicate them if not attacks on the monks of Saint-Gilles will cease [1] .

During the life of Ramon-Berenguer III, Raymond remained his faithful vassal, but when power passed to his son Berenguer Raymond , the lord de Beaux, with the support of Alfons Jordan, claimed Provence on behalf of his wife. The outbreak of civil war (1142–1150) divided the Provencal nobility. Raymond secured the support of the German king Conrad III (overlord of Provence), unhappy with the excessive strengthening of the Barcelona house. The golden bulla , given on August 4, 1145 in Würzburg , granted Raymond the right to mint a coin in the Trenketai castle, and gave him all the lands owned by his father Guillaume, son of Hugo de Bo , and all owned by Count Gilbert and his wife Gerberg , father and mother of Stefanetta. At the same time, however, nowhere in the document did it indicate that it was about the county of Provence.

In 1146, Count of Barcelona Ramon-Berenguer the Old landed in Provence and achieved a turning point in the war. In 1148, Alphonse Jordan went on a crusade. Raymond, who lost support, was forced to abandon the fight. In 1149 he went to Barcelona to ask for peace, and there he died.
