Zhibul, Victor Vyacheslavovich

He graduated from the Faculty of Philology, and then graduate school of Belarusian State University .

In 2003 he successfully defended his thesis in philology. He took an active part in the cultural life of the Belarusian capital as a performer and a member of the creative project “Shred the Barracks”, collaborated with the famous literary community “Bum-Bam-Lit”. In 2001, during a meeting of Belarusian philology students with Russian poet Dmitry Prigov, he met the poetess Vera Burlak (pseudonym Jeti), with whom they subsequently formed not only a creative, but also a family tandem. The son of Victor and Vera, Konstantin, also from a young age demonstrates poetic abilities ^[1] .

Since 1995, he began to make publications in Belarusian print media (including Maladosts, Rodnaya Slovo, Pershatsvet, newspapers Kultura, Literatura i mastastva, Literaturnaya Belarus, Dzeyasloў, etc.) .

He is the winner of the Minsk city poetry contest “Rodny Gorod” (1994), the laureate of the “Salts of the Apostrophe” award in the nomination “Poetry” ^[2] , and the multiple winner of various slam festivals ^{[3] [4]} . Member of the Union of Belarusian Writers ^[5] .

One of the most famous Belarusian avant-garde poets of the new generation, combining an experimental approach with original humor. In his work, he tries not only to play with the word, but also to combine chemical, biological, mathematical and physical concepts, to chant urban realities and existential problems. In addition, he has long and productively worked in the genre of palindrome .

According to the literary critic Leonid Golubovich, V. Zhibul’s verses are extraordinary, from the series “out of the ordinary”, and he himself is a gifted and universal person ^[6] . According to the British literary critic A. McMillin, some of V. Zhibul’s works are distinguished by a very sweet childishness, especially those that refer the reader to urban folklore and “horror stories” only in a mild ironic manner. Despite the fact that the poet is often criticized for being too addicted to banter, a member of the Belarusian PEN Center, Mikhas Scoble, in turn, emphasizes that “the poet loves to be distorted, but does it talentedly, and his phantasmagoria is perceived as a kind of realism of our crazy time” ^[7] .

Viktor Zhibul participated in international projects: “Art-Lit-Akt” (Belarus-Sweden, 1999), “1984” (Belarus-Latvia, 2000), “Evening of Young Poets of Belarus” (Moscow, 2001), “Suvyazrazry” (Belarus -Ukraine, 2004), “Word Order” (Minsk, 2006, 2007), “Days of Belarusian Culture in Poland” (Wroclaw, 2007), “Month of Authorial Reading” (Czech Republic, Brno, 2007) and others.

Poems were translated into English , Bulgarian , Latvian , Lithuanian , German ^[8] , Polish , Russian ^[9] , Ukrainian , Czech .
