Morricone, Ennio

Born November 10, 1928 in Rome , in the family of professional jazz trumpeter Mario Morricone and housewife Libera Ridolfi. Ennio was the eldest of five children. When he was 12 years old, he entered the Conservatory of Holy Cecilia in Rome, where Goffredo Petrassi became his teacher. At the Conservatory, Morricone received 3 diplomas - in the class of trumpet (1946), instrumentation (1952) and composition (1954).

When Morricone was 16 years old, he took the place of the second trumpet in the ensemble Alberto Flamini, in which his father had previously played. Together with the ensemble Morricone moonlighted, playing in nightclubs and hotels in Rome. A year later, he got a job in the theater, where he worked for one year as a musician, and then three years as a composer. In 1950, he began arranging songs by popular composers for radio. He worked on music for radio and concerts until 1960, and in 1960 began to arrange music for television shows.

He began to write music for films only in 1961, when he was 33 years old. He began with spaghetti westerns , a genre with which his name is now firmly associated. Wide popularity came to him after working on films of his former classmate - director Sergio Leone . Later he worked with the largest filmmakers in Italy - Bernardo Bertolucci , Pier Paolo Pasolini , Dario Argento , Salvatore Sampery and many others.

Since 1964, Morricone worked for RCA , where he arranged hundreds of songs, including for celebrities such as Gianni Morandi , Mario Lanza , Miranda Martino .

Having become famous in Europe, Morricone was invited to work in Hollywood cinema. In the USA he wrote music for films by such famous directors as Roman Polanski , Oliver Stone , Brian De Palma , Mike Nichols , John Carpenter , Barry Levinson , Terrence Malik and others.

Family

Ennio Morricone is married with four children:

• Andrea - conductor, composer;
• Marco - works in a copyright society;
• Alessandra - surgeon;
• Giovanni - works at Universal ^[4] .

He is seriously fond of chess , has repeatedly played with world champions . ^[5]

Ennio Morricone is one of the most famous composers of our time and one of the most famous film composers in the world. During his long career, he has written music for more than 400 films and television series in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Russia, and the USA.

As a film composer he was nominated for an Oscar six times, and in 2007 received an Oscar for his outstanding contribution to cinema. In addition, in 1988 he was awarded a Grammy Award for the music for the movie The Untouchables . In 1996, Morricone, along with photographer Augusto De Luca, received the Cities of Rome Award for Our Rome.

Contrary to popular belief, Morricone did not only create soundtracks, he also wrote chamber instrumental music, with which he made a tour in Europe in 1985, personally conducting the orchestra at concerts.

Twice in his career he starred in films for which he wrote music, and in 1995 a documentary was shot about him.

Starting from the end of the 1980s, the American band Metallica opens every concert with the composition The Ecstasy Of Gold from the classic western “ Good, Bad, Evil ”. In 1999, she was played in the S&M project for the first time in live performance (cover version).

On December 6, 2012, Morricone opened his anniversary tour with a joint concert with SOFIA Symphony Orchestra on the stage of the State Kremlin Palace .

In 2013, he decided to celebrate his 85th birthday as part of a European tour with SOFIA Symphony Orchestra. The tour opened with a grand concert in Moscow at Crocus City Hall on November 13 and 14.

In 2014, he became the honorary chairman of the I International Contest of the author’s music video “Media Music” ^[6] . The final of the competition was held on March 1, 2015 in Moscow.

In 2016, he received a second Oscar for the music for the film The Hateful Eight . ^[7]
