Biography
Georgy Makarov was born in 1913 in St. Petersburg . He graduated from five classes of the school. In 1935 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army from Sestroretsk , where he worked in the Tarkhov sanatorium. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war . Since October 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. Since 1944 , after graduating from the Pushkin Tank School, he commanded the tank of the 22nd Guards Tank Brigade of the 5th Guards Tank Corps of the 6th Guards Tank Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Romania [1] .
In August 1944, Makarov’s crew, being reconnaissance near the city of Tekuch , destroyed 3 enemy anti-tank guns, and then captured the bridge over the Siret River and held it until the main forces approached [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, the Second Lieutenant Georgy Makarov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .
April 20, 1945 died in battle. He was buried in the village of Rasdorf, east of Vienna [1] .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin and World War 1 degree [1] .
