Description
The FK 96 was a further development of the Krupp FK 73, but no improvement in the recoil system was achieved. The gun ceased to be mass-produced after the 75-mm gun of the 1897 model entered service in France. Only in 1904 did the production of similar guns resume: 7.7 cm FK 96 nA with a preserved barrel from the previous model, which became one of the main guns of the German army. The 1896 sample was labeled 7.7 cm FK 96 aA , where aA stands for “alte Art” (with German - “old sample”), and nA , respectively, as “neuer Art” (with German - “new sample”) . Some of these old-style guns were used by the Boers during the Second Boer War of 1899-1902 .
