Rodrigo Fomins ( Latvian: Rodrigo Fomins , also known under the pseudonym Igo ( Latvian. Igo ); born June 29, 1962 , Liepaja , Latvian SSR , USSR ) is a Latvian musician, singer, artist, author of most lyrics of his repertoire. Winner of the Grand Prix of the 1st All-Union Television Competition for Young Soviet Singers in the city of Jurmala, Latvian SSR (1986).

Biography

Born on June 29, 1962 in Liepaja . The full name of the artist is Rodrigo Fomins, his stage name is Igo.

Mother Irina Tire is a well-known artist in Latvia, photographer [1] . Ivo Fomins' stepbrother is a musician [2] .

He graduated from a music school in the violin class, then continued his studies at the Liepaja College of Music at the vocal department. Since childhood, he wrote poetry and painted.

He began his stage career as a vocalist of the Latvian bands Corpus (1978-1980), the cult rock band Līvi (1980-1984), Liepājas kvartets (1983-1985), Remix (1985-1990) and the American Rīga (1990 -1991).

In 1984 he received the title of "Best Soloist" at the annual Latvian music show.

In 1986, he won the Grand Prix at the First All-Union Competition of Young Performers “ Jurmala-86 ” [3] [4] with the songs of Raymond Pauls to the words of Yanis Peters “Like in an old song” and David Tukhmanov to the words of Semyon Kirsanov “Mushroom Rain” [5] .

With the composition of Raymond Pauls to the words “The Way to the Light” by Ilya Reznik , Fomins became the laureate of the television song festival “ Song of the Year ” in 1986, and with his song “Letters of the Wind” received a laureate in 1987 as well.

In 1986 he won the 2nd place and the audience prize at the international festival "Man and the Sea" in Rostock .

In 2015, he was awarded the Order of Three Stars for his services to the Fatherland.

Rock Opera, Opera, Musical

In 1988, Rodrigo Fomins played the main role in the rock opera Lachplesis ( Latvian. Lāčplēsis ) (music by Sigmar Liepins , libretto by Mary Zalite ).

In 1997, in the Latvian National Opera, he played the main role of Quasimodo in the opera Notre Dame de Paris ( Latvian “ Parīzes Dievmātes katedrāle ” ) (music by Sigmar Liepins , libretto by Caspar Dimiters ).

In 1998, the singer played the role of Jelsomino in the musical of Janis Lusens ( Zodiac band ) "The Adventures of Jelsomino in the Land of Liars" ( Latvian. "Dželsamīno piedzīvojumi Melu zemē" ) .

In 2000 he sang Victor's part in the opera “From the Rose and the Blood” to the music of Sigmar Liepins , the libretto by Caspar Dimiters ( Latvian. “No rozes un asinīm” ) .

Solo career

In the 1990s, the musician began a solo career. He collaborated with well-known Latvian composers: Raymond Pauls , Imants Kalnins , Sigmar Liepins , Janis Lusens ( Zodiac group ). The singer traveled to many countries with guest concerts, including Russia , Ukraine , Belarus , Lithuania , Estonia , Georgia , Armenia , Uzbekistan , Belgium , Luxembourg , Germany , Austria , Poland , Greece , Norway , Sweden , Finland , and the USA .

In January 1998 he released the collection of the best songs “Tas ir Igo” (“This is Igo”) in two CDs, and in 1999 the first solo album “Bet dzīvē viss ir savādāk ...” (“Everything is different in life ...”) .

During his creative career, the musician released more than 10 solo albums (see Discography).

In May 2000, Igo got into a major car accident, the doctors fought for the artist’s life, and after a long rehabilitation the singer continued his concert activity.

With his creative team, Igo continues to tour throughout Latvia . Every year he gives solo concerts on the best stages of the country: “ Arena Riga ”, the concert hall “Dzintari” , etc.

In 2008, the singer celebrated the 30th anniversary of his creative activity on the stage of “ Arena Riga ” [6] .

In June 2012, Rodrigo Fomins jubilee concerts were held in Latvia with full houses, in which composers Raimonds Pauls , Sigmar Liepins , Janis Strazds, opera singer Evia Martinsone, singers Siegfried Muktupavels ( Zodiak group ), Andris Erglis, musician Dva took part playing the Latvian folk instrument Kokle , Laima Jansone, saxophonist Zintis Jvarts, a group of Remix and others, as well as the Vidzeme chamber orchestra conducted by Andris Veismanis [7] .

After 22 years, Rodrigo Fomins returned to Russia with concerts. The new program was presented in St. Petersburg in February and November 2012, in Moscow in November 2012. In September 2014, the singer again visited St. Petersburg with a recital and an exhibition of his graphics.
