Political career
As a member of the Central African Democratic Movement, Nguyende was elected to the National Assembly from the fifth district of the capital of the Central African Republic , Bangui [1] . In early 2013, Nguyende founded his own political party, the Union in Support of the Republic. When, in March 2013, the Sélek group entered Bangui , ousting President Francois Bozise , Nguyende was among the first to recognize the new, self-proclaimed President Michel Jotodia .
On April 13, 2013, under pressure from regional leaders, Jotodia tried to legitimize his right to take office as president by creating a National Transitional Council with 105 members. On April 15, 2013, Nguyende was elected president of the council.
On January 10, 2014, Michel Jotodia voluntarily renounced the powers of the president of the country because of his inability to cope with the wave of violence that swept the country [2] , and then fled to Benin [3] . On January 11, Nguyende became the acting president of the Central African Republic, as he was the second person in the country [4] .
On January 13, Alexander-Ferdinand Nguyende said that peace finally reigned in the country after several weeks of violent clashes. “The chaos is over, looting and revengeful attacks are left behind,” he said [5] .
On January 20, Catherine Samba-Panza , mayor of the country's capital Bangui, was elected interim president of the Central African Republic [6] .
