Appearance and structureSwift scallop shell height is up to 10.5, length is up to 9.5 cm. It has a round-triangular shape, its lower (right) sash is flatter than the upper one. There are 5 wide radial folds on both wings. Up to six annual growth zones are clearly visible on the shell. The color of the shell of an adult mollusk is purple; the lower cusp is paler than the upper, often almost white. Young individuals may be orange or pink with white spots and stripes.
RangeIt lives in the Sea of Japan , off the northern islands of Japan , the southern Kuril Islands and in Aniva Bay ( Sakhalin Island ). In the Sea of Japan, it is found at depths of 2 to 46 m on hard soils (stones, pebbles and shell rocks). Accumulations, most often, do not form.
Human InteractionThis mollusk can be eaten, but does not have commercial value.
