William Brent Burns ( born William Brent Burns ; March 9, 1985 , Barry , Ontario , Canada ) - Canadian professional hockey player , defender of the San Jose Sharks NHL club. World Champion 2015 and silver medalist at the 2008 World Cup, both tournaments were recognized as the best defender.

Game career
Brent Burns was drafted in round 1 under a general 20th number by the Minnesota Wild team in 2003 .
In his first season in the NHL in 2003/04, he played 36 matches and scored 6 points on the goal + pass system (1 + 5) with a utility index of -10, earned 12 minutes of a penalty.
During a shutout in the NHL in the 2004/05 season, he played in the American Hockey League with Houston Aeros . In the 2005–06 season, he fully integrated into the Minnesota Wild game scheme as a defense player, having spent 72 games for the Savages and scored 16 points.
In the course of the 2007/08 season, he signed a new contract with Minnesota Wild. The term of the new agreement was 4 years [2] . At the end of the season, he became the best scorer among the Minnesota defenders, scoring 15 goals and giving 28 assists in the end, gaining 43 points.
The seasons 2008/09 and 2009/10 were not very successful in the career of Brent Burns due to injuries. In the 2008-09 season, due to an erroneously diagnosed sinusitis (in fact, Burns was later diagnosed with concussion), which they tried to treat for 6 weeks, Brent seriously risked his health. As a result, missing the ending of the season - 19 matches, Burns scored 27 points [3] . Later, after the season ended, he underwent surgery on his shoulder. I missed almost half of the 2009/10 season due to injuries, gaining 20 points in 47 games [4] .
After stabbing his face in the face of Steve Bernier on November 12, 2010, he received a two-match suspension. He played in the All-Star Game of the NHL 2011 .
During the 2011 draft , Burns was exchanged with the right to choose in the second round of the 2012 draft in San Jose for Devin Setoguchi , Charlie Coyle and the right to choose in the first round of the 2011 draft [5] . On August 1, 2011, he signed a 5-year contract with San Jose Sharks for a total of $ 28.8 million with an average salary of $ 5.76 million per year [6] .
On November 29, 2013, in the match against St. Louis Blues , he made his first hat-trick in his career, thanks to three goals by Brent Burns, “Sharks” were able to win with a score of 6: 3.
On November 23, 2016, he signed a new contract with San Jose Sharks. The agreement with the hockey player is designed for 8 years with an average salary of $ 8 million per season. [7]
In the 2016/17 season, he was recognized as the best defender of the NHL and received the James Norris Trophy , scoring 76 points in 82 matches and scoring 29 goals.
International Career
As a member of the Canadian national team, he performed at four world championships in 2008 , 2010 , 2011 , 2015 . The 2015 World Champion, where he became the most productive defender of his team, gaining 11 (2 + 9) points [8] , and was also recognized as the best defender of the tournament.
At the 2008 World Championships, held in the IIHF Centennial in Canada, the Canadian team was able to reach the finals, where they met with the Russian team . In the final match, Brent Burns twice managed to print the goal of the Russian team, which was defended by Evgeny Nabokov (then the player of “ San Jose Sharks ”), scoring the first and third goals for the Russians. However, in the end, Canadians lost in overtime with a score of 4: 5, and the defender received silver medals. By the end of the tournament, Burns scored 9 points, becoming the best defender of the World Cup [9] .
He was included in the extended application of the Canadian team for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver , but in the end could not go to the Olympics.
Also in 2016 , he won the World Cup, playing in all matches of the tournament and entering the field with his teammate Mark-Eduard Vlasik .
