Herman Crater ( lat. Hermann ) is a small impact crater in the equatorial western region of the Ocean of Storms on the visible side of the Moon . The name is given in honor of the Swiss mathematician and mechanic Jacob German (1678-1733); approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935

Crater Description
The closest neighbors of the crater are Lorman Crater in the west; Hevelius crater in the west-north-west; Cavalieri Crater in the northwest; Reiner Crater in the north-northeast; Flemstead Crater in the east-southeast; as well as the Damuaso Crater in the southwest. A structure with a high albedo Reiner Gamma is located in the north-north-west of the crater, in the east a low ridge stretches in the meridional direction, and in the west there is a small vortex-like structure with a high albedo [1] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 15.9 km [2] , depth 1.71 km [3] .
The crater has a circular shape, somewhat disturbed by a protrusion in the western part, flooded with lava and has a low albedo like the surrounding area, a well-preserved shaft with a clearly defined edge protrudes above the surface of the lava. The average height of the crater shaft above the surrounding area is 560 m [4] .
Thermal anomalies during lunar eclipses were recorded in the crater . This phenomenon is explained by the small age of the crater and the lack of a sufficient regolith layer, which has a thermally insulating effect.
