Jenny Fletcher was born in 1890 in a poor family in Leicester , where she was one of 11 children. She had to work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, and she could only train after work, but despite this, from 1906 to 1912, she became a champion 6 times at a distance of 100 yards freestyle, and in 1909 established the world record. In 1912, at the Olympic Games in Stockholm, she won the gold medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and the bronze medal in the 100 m freestyle race.
