Betulia ( Spanish: Betulia ) is a city and municipality in the west of Colombia , in the Antioquia department. Included in the subregion of Southwest Antioquia .

History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded on January 28, 1848 . The municipality of Betulia was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1884 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southwestern part of the department, in the highlands of Western Cordillera , west of the Cauca River , approximately 44 kilometers west-southwest (WSW) from Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 1807 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of Betulia borders in the north with the municipality of Ansa , in the east with the municipality of Armenia , in the south and southeast with the municipality of Concordia , in the northwest and west with the municipality of Urrao . The area of the municipality is 252 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 17,317 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 51.7% of the population of Betulia, women - 48.3%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 97.2% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raisals - 2.6%, Indians - 0.2% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 74.5%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of Betulia is agricultural production and mining. The main crops cultivated in the municipality are coffee , sugarcane , mangoes and bananas .
55% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 37.8% are service enterprises, 5% are industrial enterprises, 2.2% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
