Description
They differ from other cumaceans of the Lampropidae family by their well- proportioned body and mild pseudo-strum. Males have 3 pairs of abdominal pleopod extremities. The anal lobe ( telson ) is developed, free, carries from 1 to 8 apical spines (usually three). Small crustaceans with body appearance resembling tadpoles : the shell-covered swollen cephalothorax and the thoracic part (covered with common carapace ) is enlarged and contrasted with the thinner belly ( pleon ) ending with the tail fork. Female antennas consist of 4 or 5 segments (end segment elongated). Uropods (elongated limbs of the sixth segment) have a 3-segmented endopod [3] [4] .
Systematics
It has about 30 species. The genus was first isolated in 1882 by the Norwegian zoologist Georg Ossian Sars ( Georg Ossian Sars ; 1837–1927). In the Russian waters of the Sea of Japan there are 2 species [3] .
