The Military History Museum , ( Museo Histórico Militar ), also the Museum of Military History, the mausoleum of Hugo Chávez, is a multi-purpose, cultural and historical building. Located in the flat terrain of the area on January 23, the Liberation Bolivar Municipality in the metropolitan area of Caracas . It is the final resting place of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez .

The building was built from 1904 to 1906 , under the presidents of Cipriano Castro and Juan Vicente Gomez . Since 1981, the building houses a military history museum, with exhibits of great historical value. Since 2013, the mausoleum of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez . In the past, the building housed the Headquarters of the Military Academy (1910–1949), the Headquarters of the Ministry of Defense (1941–1981), and also served many other functions.
In February 1992, the building was used as a command center for an armed uprising led by Hugo Chávez against the government of President Carlos Andres Perez . The uprising was defeated, and it was in this place that Chavez surrendered to the government and made a famous speech. In 2002, President Hugo Chavez conducted the first edition of the program “Hello, President” to mark the 10th anniversary of this event.
After Chavez’s death on March 5, 2013 , the Vice President Nicolas Maduro , the Acting President, ordered that the building be turned into a mausoleum and museum of Hugo Chávez, while maintaining the status of a military museum.
Work on the redevelopment of the building was carried out in a short time under the guidance of the famous Venezuelan architect Fruto Vivas ( es ). The memorial complex was opened on March 15, 2013 , together with the holding of the state funeral of Chavez [1] . The funeral was visited by hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans. The ceremony was attended by heads of more than 30 states.
At the entrance to the territory of the mausoleum there is an alley of flags of friendly countries with Venezuela.
In the center of the memorial complex on the floor is the flower "Four Elements" (fire, wind, earth and water), in the center of which is the sarcophagus with the body of Hugo Chávez. The sarcophagus has a guard of honor. Around the tomb are located in a circle rooms with an exhibition of photographs, documents about the revolutionary struggle of Chavez throughout his life [2] . The museum is visited by about 800 people a day, 2000 people on weekends. They let in groups of 20 people, accompanied by a guide, and schoolchildren are allowed out of turn. Photo and video shooting is prohibited in the museum [3] .
Every fifth day of the month, Maduro organizes a compulsory prayer service for the first persons of the state to rest Chavez in the church at the mausoleum, which is located in the room at the tomb. Every day, at 16:25 hours (the time of Chavez's death), a cannon shot is fired [4] .
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday (Monday - day off).
