Biography

He graduated from the basic faculty of the National University of Defense of the PLA, also studied at a party school under the Central Committee of the CPC in the specialty of administrative management.

As Kommersant-Vlast magazine noted, his appointment to the position of PLA chief political officer was unexpected for observers [1] .
In August 2017, he resigned from the post of Chief Political Leader and was not elected as a representative of the XIX Congress of the CCP .
On November 23, 2017, he committed suicide in his apartment due to corruption charges. According to official PLA reports, a check against Zhang Yang began in August 2017, after he resigned. The result of the audit showed that Zhang was closely connected with the former vice-chairmen of the TsVS Guo Bosyun (in custody) and Xu Tsaihou (he died in 2015 during the investigation). Zhang Yang is allowed to live in his apartment during the investigation, during which he killed himself. China's CEV sharply condemned the suicide of Zhang Yang as an attempt to evade punishment, which, however, would not cause the investigation of the criminal case against him to cease [2] .
