About the song
This song is about those who are obsessed with the struggle to possess everything in the world.
The video for this song was shot in Salt Lake City , Utah in December 1996. The director of the video was Matt Makhurin, who also made a video for the song “ The Unforgiven ”, and also made videos for artists such as Motley Crue and Queensrÿche . According to the plot of the clip, the lonely self-proclaimed king walks through the snowy forest and valley, changing cardboard crowns, while Metallica musicians play in the night forest against a background of snow and bonfires.
King Nothing was first performed live on September 23, 1995 in Canada on the Arctic Circle show with Ain't my Bitch and Until it Sleeps. “King Nothing” was also performed at the American Music Awards January 27, 1997. [2]
Demo
The demo version of “King Nothing” was called “Load” and was recorded at Lars' home studio along with James on November 30, 1994.
