Biography

GDR Career

Since 1974, Lutz played for Dynamo Berlin , a club that was under the patronage of the Stasi . In 1978 - 1979 he was involved in games for the national team of the GDR , where he scored three goals in six games.

Escape to Germany

On March 20, 1979, Dynamo held an away friendly match with the West German Kaiserslautern , after which the Berliners went on an excursion to Giessen , where Lutz was behind the group, took a taxi and went back to Kaiserslautern , to the office of the host team with the desire to stay in their country and club. Aigendorf’s wife and daughter, as well as his parents, remained in the East - their state did not allow them to get to Lutz, having established strict control over them by the Stasi forces. The life of Lutz in Germany also controlled several agents from the East.

The Kaiserslautern tried to resolve the conflict with its eastern neighbors by offering Dynamo 100,000 Deutschmarks as a regular football transfer , but met with a decisive refusal by the Berliners. According to the FIFA rules , Eigendorf was suspended from professional appearances for a year, which he spent as a coach in the children's team of his new club.

Career in Germany

After two and a half seasons at the Kaiserslautern, Eigendorf parted with the club by mutual agreement. The head coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp did not see him as a key player for his team, and Lutz was released into the Braunschweig Eintracht that showed interest in him before the 1982/83 season . Aitracht head coach Uli Maslo counted on Eigendorf as a stopper, but due to injuries by March 1983, he had only eight official meetings for the main team [2] . His last match in his life was the game on February 26 in Dortmund against the local Borussia , which he spent in full, and the team lost (3: 2). Home match on March 5 with “ Bochum ”, lost with a score of 0: 2, Lutz spent on the bench.

Death

After losing to Bochum, at a team meeting, Eigendorf drank a couple of beers , and then, presumably, drove in a Kneipp , where he allowed himself one more mug. After being at home, he went to meet his instructor for piloting aircraft to discuss his first flight, scheduled for March 7 , where they drank another glass of beer. Returning home, Lutz had a car accident : his Alfa Romeo did not fit into the turn, flew off the road and crashed into a tree . The main blow fell on the driver's seat of the car. On March 7, without regaining consciousness, Lutz died in hospital as a result of numerous fractures and a head injury . Alcohol was found in the blood of the deceased: 2.2 ppm, which roughly corresponds to the figure with ten drunk glasses of beer. According to a common, but not plausible version, the accident was organized by Stasi agents [3] .
