Taxonomy

The species was first scientifically described in 2010. Paratypes : adult males 92-100 cm long, underdeveloped embryos 13.1-14 cm long and female 99.2 cm long, found in the fish market on the southeastern coast of Lombok , Indonesia ;; a 84.9 cm long female found in the fish market on the southwest coast of Bali; [2] .

The specific name comes from the words Greek. Ξ»Ξ·Ο€Ο„ΟŒΟ‚ - β€œthin” and lat. lineatus - β€œlined” [3] .

Range

Orectolobus leptolineatus live in the western Pacific Ocean off the coast of Indonesia, Borneo , possibly Taiwan , the Philippines and the Ryukyu Islands . The depth at which these sharks are found is not exactly known. All currently known sharks were caught by deep-sea tiers on the continental shelf [1] .

Description

Orectolobus leptolineatus has a flat and wide head and body. The color is very variegated, the back and sides and the dorsal surface of the fins are covered with numerous thin dark brown stripes. The belly is even, dull. The nostrils are framed by a branched tendril. The head is framed by a characteristic fringe of leather blades. Tubercles and bumps above the eyes are absent. Dorsal fins narrow, upright. The base of the first dorsal fin begins above the base of the ventral fins. The distance between the dorsal fins is 0.5-0.8 of the length of the base of the anal fin. The inner edge of the anal fin is 0.7-0, the length of the outer edge. There are 23 upper dentitions in the mouth. There is a rudimentary middle row on the symphysis of the upper jaw. The total number of vertebrae of the axial skeleton is 148–163 [1] .

Biology

The diet of Orectolobus floridus probably consists of bony fish , crustaceans and cephalopods . All males known so far were sexually mature, their size exceeded 90 cm, the smallest of the sexually mature females was 94, the length of two pregnant females was 104 and 108 cm. The maximum recorded size was 112 cm [1] .

Human Interaction

The species is of interest to local fisheries. The meat is used as food. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has not yet assessed the conservation status of this species.
