History
The first bank appeared in the Maldives in 1982 - it was a branch of the State Bank of India . Later branches of banks in Pakistan and Sri Lanka appeared . On November 11, 1982, the commercial (but state) Bank of the Maldives was founded. His work began as a joint venture between the Government of Maldives and the International Finance Corporation . But in 1992, it was decided not to renew the contract with IFC, and the government bought back its shares in the bank. As a result, 80% of the capital is owned by the government, while the remaining 20% was sold to foreign trade companies [1] .
The main activity of the bank is the retail business , in addition to processing banking development activities in all atolls . Their services include electronic banking, credit cards and debit cards [2] .
