About the album
The name of the disc is taken from the monologue of Laura Palmer , the heroine of the movie “ Twin Peaks: Through Fire ” [1] . On the cover of the plate is a photograph of naked Sky taken by the Argentine filmmaker Gaspard Noé at the Amour Hotel in Paris [2] . After publication on the website of Pitchfork magazine, photography became the subject of discussion among music journalists and the public [3] . Some condemned her for her vulgarity and desire to attract interest by shocking the public, while others admired Noé's resourcefulness and disregard for pop culture [4] .
The singer began work on her debut album in 2010, but filming in films, as well as participation in the promotional campaign of Calvin Klein perfumes, constantly interfered with fruitful creative activity. For three years, Ferreira recorded several songs for the debut album, which, ultimately, were not included in this album. Only created in August 2013 with the help of mentor-producers of the composition entered the debut work. In general, Night Time, My Time turned out to be extremely radical and cynical in comparison with the early work of the singer; it tracks music growing up: teenage dance melodies are replaced by gloomy synth-pop with elements of a new wave and art rock ; the lyrics contain themes of self-destruction and sexuality.
The album received positive reviews from music critics who noted a cynical drive, sharpness, and contempt for the major industry . In a review, reviewer Annie Zalessky of the AV Club emphasizes that the album “manages to portray her [Ferreira] as a complex nature that successfully detects its voice” [5] . Capitol Records counted on the effect of an independent musician who should get good sales, and therefore profit. However, Ferreira’s work turned out to be commercially unsuccessful and did not live up to the label’s expectations [6] .
Night Time, My Time was included in a large number of lists of the best albums of 2013 [7] ; in the selection of the authoritative journal Fact, the disc was second only to the work of the independent musician Dean Blunt, The Redeemer , taking second place [8] .
