Biography
After graduation, Kasai came to work at the Nitibo spinning mill, becoming a player of the volleyball club of the same name, which dominated the country's women's volleyball in the 1950s and 1960s. This team became the basis for the acquisition of the Japanese team , whose captain was appointed Kasai. In the international arena, she made her debut at the World Cup in Brazil in 1960, becoming the silver medalist after the USSR national team . Two years later, Kasai as a member of the national team became the world champion after a rematch at the Soviet team in Moscow (1962).
At the Olympic Games debut for women’s volleyball in Tokyo (1964), together with her teammates, she won a gold medal. After the victory, the team was received by the Prime Minister of Japan, whom the athlete complained that, due to the tight training schedule, she could not marry. The head of the Japanese office personally set a date and the wedding took place.
In January 1965, announced the completion of a gaming career. Later she worked as a coach in Japan and China. In 2003-2004 - Deputy Chairman of the Japan Volleyball Association. In 2004, she was the head of the delegation of the women's volleyball team of Japan at the Athens Olympics . In 2008 included in the Volleyball Hall of Fame .
Masae Nakamura (Kasai) died on October 3, 2013 at the age of 80 in a Tokyo hospital from a brain hemorrhage.
