Sinead Cusack ( born Sinéad Cusack , February 18, 1948 , Dolki , Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish theater, film and television actress, twice nominated for Tony and five times for the Lawrence Olivier Award .

Family

Sinead Cusack, nee Jane Moira Cusack, was born in the suburbs of Dublin Dolka into the family of Irish actors and Cyril Cusack. [4] Her two sisters Sorcha and and half-sister are also actresses.

Career

Cusack played her first roles at the Abby Theater in Dublin. In 1970, she starred in the movie Hoffman , where Peter Sellers was her partner. In 1971, she appeared as a guest on the television series Detective Extra Class Lovers as the rich heiress of Jenny Lindley. In 1975, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in London. In the same year, she appeared in three episodes of the BBC spy series Quiller.

Cusack's Broadway debut took place in 1984 when the Royal Shakespeare Company played performances in the United States. She replaced Alice Krieg in the role of Roxanne in Edmond Rostand's play Cyrano de Bergerac , and she also played the role of Beatrice in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing . The production of Cyrano de Bergerac in 1985 was filmed for television. Cusack was nominated for Tony for her role as Roxanne. After the shows in New York, the troupe gave a tour of the United States, including performances in Washington and Los Angeles. In 1998, she performed one of her most famous theater roles, O'Hara, in the play “The Lady of Sligo,” which she performed in Ireland, Broadway, and at the Royal National Theater in London.

In 1992, Cusack played a major role in the film by Stephen Gyllenhaal based on Graham Swift's novel “ Near the Water ”, where Jeremy Irons was her partner. In 2004, she appeared on the BBC television series, an adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell 's novel North and South as Mrs. Thornton. In 2006, he was marked by the role of Dr. Delia Sarridge in the feature film “ V is Vendetta, ” as well as the main role in the British sitcom “Back At Home”. In 2011, she was part of the main cast of the television series " Camelot ".

Together with actresses Paula Dionisotti, Fiona Shaw , Juliet Stevenson and Harriet Walter Cusack contributed to the creation of Carol Ratter's book, which tells about the modern performance of roles in classic Shakespearean plays [5] .

Personal life

Since 1978, Sinead Cusack has been married to actor Jeremy Irons . They had two children: Samuel James (1978) and Maximilian Paul (1985).

Before meeting with Irons, in 1968, Cusack gave birth to a son and gave him for adoption. In 2007, the Irish media discovered that Sinead Cusack was the biological mother of Irish Trotskyist politician Richard Boyd Barrett, who at that time ran for the House of Representatives of Ireland (since 2011 it is a member) [6] . Since then, mother and son continue to maintain a relationship.

In 1998, Cusack and her husband were included in the list of largest sponsors of the British Labor Party [7] . Cusack is also the patron of a non-governmental organization that fights for human rights and democracy in Myanmar .
