Biography
Born in a large family, his father was a professor. He graduated from the Law Faculty of the Central University of Ecuador and Harvard University.
At the age of 23, he joined the Foreign Ministry and soon he was appointed ambassador to the Dominican Republic, representing also Venezuela, since relations between these countries were severed due to the fact that Venezuela helped 13 Dominican Republic citizens obtain political asylum in the United States.
- 1970-1975 - Ambassador to Argentina,
- 1976-1980 - Ambassador to Spain,
- 1980-1981 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador. In this position, he faced a deterioration in relations with neighboring Peru, which led to a military conflict in January 1981, successfully participated in its settlement at a specially convened meeting of the countries-members of the Organization of American States in Washington. When he returned home, he received public support and several parties even offered him to run for the presidency of the country.
As a writer, he is known for his children's novel “The Country of Manuelito”, in Russian he published his novel “Inherit an unknown sea and unknown languages” and the story “The Book of a Sinner”,
