Biography
His mother was the daughter of former President of Peru Francisco Dieu Canseco and the niece of another President Pedro Dieu Canseco . He graduated from the College of San Luis Gonzaga of the Jesuit Order, in 1930 Dies Koneseko receives a scholarship to study in the United States. Returning to Ecuador, he became a professor of history, Spanish and American literature at the school of Vicente Rocafuerte, was also the quartermaster for secondary education and deputy of the province of Guayas.
During the dictatorship, Federico Paeza (1935-1937) was arrested and imprisoned, then exiled to Chile, where he worked for Editorial Ercilla. Returning to Ecuador, he was elected to parliament, but during the reign of Aurelio Mosquera was again arrested. These events formed the basis of his novel Men Out of Time.
In 1944, he was charge d'affaires ai in Mexico. In 1945, he became a special representative of the Agency for Assistance and Rehabilitation of the Countries Affected by World War II (UNRRA).
Difficult life circumstances made Die Conceco adherents of the ideas of social justice, politically close to the "left" views. His first novel, The House of Fools (1929), was a political satire on contemporary Ecuador; his publication was postponed. The main influence on his life and work was made by the Greek classics, Honore de Balzac, F. M. Dostoevsky, Thomas Mann, Will Duran and Arnold Toynbee, with whom he corresponded. Some critics also find the influence of Z. Freud, I. Ehrenburg, A. Gide and M. Proust. Among the famous works: “Spring” (1933), the film adaptation of “Three Rats” (1944), “Barbarian Bonfire” (1944) - a fictionalized biography of Eloy Alfaro , a series of novels “Without warning (1956), an essay about Thomas Mann (1956) and "Tests. tests "(1981).
After the country returned to democracy in 1979-1980. served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador. After retiring, he devoted himself to historical research.
