Karel Gut ( Czech. Karel Gut ; September 16, 1927 , Prague - January 6, 2014 , ibid.) - Czechoslovak and Czech hockey player and coach. Played as a defender.

Sports career
He headed the Czechoslovak national team at the victorious world championships 1976 and 1977. Member of the IIHF Hall of Fame (1998) and the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame.
In 1949-1951 he played for ATK (Prague), in 1951-1953 - Tatra (Smikhov), 1953-1964 - Spartak Sokolovo . In the last club, Frantisek Tikal was his partner. Champion of Czechoslovakia 1954. In total in the league he played 310 matches (86 goals).
As part of the national team, he participated in three Olympics (1952, 1956, 1960).
He participated in nine world and European championships (1952-1960). At world championships he won three bronze awards (1955, 1957, 1959). At the European Championships - four silver (1952, 1955, 1959, 1960) and bronze (1954, 1956, 1957, 1958) awards. In 1955 he was recognized as the best defender of the tournament. He played 61 matches at the World Championships and Olympic Games (19 goals), and in total, 114 matches and 34 goals in the Czechoslovak team.
In 1964-1967 and 1971-1973 he headed the Prague Sparta . In 1967-1970 and 1980-1983 he worked with the Landshut club. Under his leadership, the German team won the Bundesliga twice (1970, 1983).
He achieved the greatest success at the head of the Czechoslovak team (1974-1980). Under his leadership, the team twice won the world championships, four times finished the second. European Champion 1976, 1977. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck received silver awards. Finalist of the Canada Cup 1976 . After an unsuccessful performance at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, he resigned as head coach of the national team. Under his leadership, the Czechoslovak team held perhaps the best match in its history (1974, Czechoslovakia - USSR 7: 2).
The author of several books about hockey. In 1994-2004 - President of the Czech Hockey Federation.
