At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, Hamilton participated in the men's Lacrosse tournament, in which his team won first place, winning in a single match against Great Britain .
After the Olympics, he completed his active career as a player in both Lacrosse and Rugby. In April 1909 he became president of the Montreal hockey club. In May 1912, he also became president of the Montreal lacrosse club. In November 1913, he resigned as president of the lacrosse club and intended to permanently leave the sport, but in the end he was persuaded to return to the club as vice president. He remained an influential figure in the international lacrosse until the 1940s, being one of the organizers of the establishment of the Cup of the most valuable player in the International Professional League.
In addition, in 1932 he took part in the organization of the Montreal Royals hockey club, the first team of which won the Allan Cup in 1939 and 1947 , and the youth won the Memorial Cup in 1949 .
Ernest Hamilton’s son, is a well-known Canadian politician, among other things, he was a member of the Canadian Parliament from Montreal and the postmaster general (postal minister) of Canada.
