Description
The body shape is oblong-oval or elongated, usually brown. Ocellia and trichobotria are developed. Antennae and labium 4-segmented. The hips of the front legs are thickened and often armed with spines [1] [2] . The third abdominal suture in front of the lateral edges of the abdomen bends forward (without reaching these edges) and turns back, walking along the lateral edge. They live in forest litter, in detritus under plants. They are polyphagous, feed mainly on seeds [3] .
Systematics
2 subfamilies (Rhyparochrominae, Plinthisinae), 14 tribes, 368 genera and more than 1800 species. Previously, Rhyparochromidae was considered as a subfamily in the Lygaeidae family. The taxon was first isolated in 1843 by the French entomologists Amyot (1775–1866) and Jean Guillaume Odin-Servil (1799–1858) [1] .
